Kyrgyzstani people overthrew the government for the third time because of fraudulent elections. Vote-buying and administrative pressure, constantly accompanying all elections in Kyrgyzstan, played a decisive role this time as well. Whether this will be a lesson for the political elite and power groups is highly questionable.

At the last parliamentary election "Birimdik" party's election fund amounted to 97.5 million soms, ranking third in size. Of this amount, 32.6 million soms were voluntary donations from citizens. In other words, ordinary people raised almost a third of the funds the party used to campaign for the election.

Many unemployed people and poor officials, according to their tax returns, contributed tens of millions soms to the parties participating in the elections of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh. The financial publication Economist.kg investigated the five parties with the largest election funds using open data on who exactly credited the large sums of money and where they got the money from.

The suspension of the electoral process in Kyrgyzstan due to the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed a long-standing problem as vote buying. Political parties have started to massively distribute humanitarian aid to the Kyrgyz people, thus, according to some experts, massively violating the constitutional law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Elections of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic" and the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Elections of Deputies of Local Councils". Such a violation occurs during all elections and negates the very idea of holding a fair popular vote.
